The Sculpture of Motherhood
Helena Bacardí motherhood sculpture (Mother and Child (2003) limestone) draws deeply from her own experience of raising three children and the profound, often conflicting emotions of motherhood. The work explores the delicate balance between closeness and independence – the unbreakable bond and the inevitable letting go.
Artistic Vision
As the artist explains, “I wanted the composition to reflect the upward mobility and development of the child pushing away from the mother.” The form rises, stretches, and leans outward, embodying both the deep attachment and the child’s determined movement toward selfhood.
